A kite festival … 417 Day … and some mighty tasty barbecue
April 1: Easter sunrise services, Hammons Field. Gates open at 6 a.m. Service begins at 6:30. Complimentary coffee and hot chocolate. Featured speaker: Beth Grant of Project Rescue. In case of rain, the service will be held indoors at the Springfield Cardinals training facility. Free parking.
April 6: First Friday Art Walk, 6-10 p.m. Free, self-guided tour of gallery and art venues. Walk around, see people you know. Live music and great people-watching.
April 7: Cherry Blossom Kite & Pinata Festival, 11 a.m.-3 p.m., Springfield Botanical Gardens at Nathanael Greene/Close Memorial Part, 2400 S. Scenic Ave. Free. Kite kits are $5. More info: (417) 891-1515.
April 17: Hey kids, it’s 417 Day! A community event to help build bridges and bring the community together for something positive. Live DJ, food and refreshments. 4-8 p.m., Fassnight Park. More info: (417) 709-1762.
April 20-21: 19th Annual Rock’n Ribs BBQ Festival, Ozark Empire Fairgrounds. Four score of teams come together to compete for the best barbeque in a Kansas City BBQ Society-sanctioned event. There’s 11 hours of live music, a Kids Play Zone, plenty of food and drink. Friday: 5-11 p.m. Saturday 10 a.m.-11 p.m. $10 adults, kids 12 & under free.

Please check your mailbox frequently. If it is too full, the post office will stop delivering and return your mail, and then you might miss that letter from Brad Pitt inviting you to his next big homecoming shindig. That would be a shame. After checking your mail, stop by the office and say “hey!”
